dead intellectuals
John Rawls passed away last week, and Ivan Illich is the latest intellectual to meet his end.

Ivan Illich's passing leaves me a bit numb. A luminous being, he was a spirited individual who enlightened many fields with his typically dense and rigorous rhetoric. I first attended his lectures in Toronto in the 70's and thereafter had to be content to read the books. CBC "Ideas" broadcast at least two intensive series which were memorable. Unfortunate that the AP Press had such a reductive writeup on the occasion of his death.
